TIE DYE   

Megan was among the pioneers of 60's tie dye.

Leila Megan Huggins Montiel's tie dye credentials include some large creations. She assisted Maureen Titcomb on Graham Nash's tie dyed velvet curtains ca 1973 And she help tie dye the large teepees for the Medicine Ball Caravan of 1970. Back then they used aniline dyes which gave fabulous, subtle colors, but had extremely toxic fumes as they were set with lye. "Lye Tie Dye".

OLD WEST INFLUENCES

As Arizona girls who moved to SF, the HugginSisters were naturally drawn to Old West remakes, but they were in good company as it was an incredibly popular style worn by many from the Charlatans to Travis T Hip, Jack Towle and  others. The above picture was noticed, then used by CARGO MAGAZINE in their May 2005 issue to highlight the return of the floral shirt. It was the "then" of an Then and Now piece. The modern shirts featured in the piece were manufactured brand-names up to $450!!!!
