Jospeh Gostanian--so glad to see his name here; I worked with him after his time at the Strait, in 1976, when he directed "Find Your Way Home" downtown; He was a phenomenal director, and rightly proud of his work at the Straight; It pleases me, and would make him proud, to be remembered here;

Hey! Reggie; Give me your personal e-mail so I can reminisce with our old manager some more; I've tried a few of the addresses I could find but had no luck; Are you still in contact with Howard Kerr? I seem to have lost him or something; I'm concerned about us all as time crawls(and scrawls)by; Love to the happy,hippie hordes who made the sixties the unique historical event it was; I'd like to score a time machine and search the future for anything remotely resembling it coming to pass again; Bye,for now,I've got to go out to the kennel and feed our 15 far-out flat-coated retrievers; Bye;Oh!,By the way; I have a page on Voiceover Universe you might want to dig; There's my pic,bio and demo if anyone needs a voice actor out there; Bye,again;

Between 69 and 70, I was in the Army, a Green Beret, and about as right wing as one can get, (crazy, I mean) and I suddenly realized how crazy I was getting and how crazy it was around me, so I stopped being a soldier and became a pacifist right in the middle of the Army; They didn't know what to do with me, and one day I was given a hit of pink clinical acid by a friend in my unit and blew my mind;

And became so smart and together, they could never put a hand on me;

After traveling all over the country, studying everyone and everything, hiking through deserts and taking psychedelics, I took my massive hippy ego and moved to the Farm, Gaskin's community in Tennessee, a direct descendant of the Haight; They helped me get my head together and from then on, I've worked to free up the world;
Reading the history of the Straight helped me grow roots where none existed before; I am grateful for all you old hippies who remind us what we came from;

Love and Peace,

Reggie's Comments   Hi Roan,
Thanks for writing about your important life experiences as they deal with concerns that effect us all, especially today. I appreciate your motivating words about my writing as I have a lot left to tell and expressed thoughts like yours take my focus off the mundane mire pulling at me daily and back onto the Universal principles exemplified by the people of the 60’s and its fomenters like Stephen leading me back to the heart of the story that has to be told.

Playboy article "The Theaters Nude Revolution" November 1968 Page 104
"Topless and bottomless is the way the San Francisco rock band the Allmen Joy played recently at the hippie culture Palace the Straight Theater the Joy were part of an all singing all dancing group grope in titled “Carnival and Resurrection of the Blind God Orpheus Under the Tower in the Palace of Lost Souls” scripted by Monty Pike “Carnival” was a tedious evening of slack-jawed social protest until the very last moment when the Joy urging everyone to be free flung off their clothes and the 26 man casts started walloping one another and the audience with pillows and finally 50 brave souls from the audience joined the melee;"

How could research, teen, lean into this website
Tilt the upright frame 'til
Squared like Straight to the sun,
And, so, know, fog drifts to and from Golden Gate Park
Close, yet a green hand knurled with Seacliff's expanse at the ocean,
and the jam of redwood construction homes on Fell,
Streets like Lincoln Way, which, note, leads other than to Parnassus
A glimpse of a ridge up the slopes;
Maybe the homework simply looks, as I did, for a dancer, the one at the door, like Li Su, though only the imagined visitor,
As always, remained busy, even in the fun of trying to place the center of the dance entertainment participatory part of that era, this time,
In the same place as the actual people, or, actual streets; located on the sign marquee, easiest is to change Haight by word processing sixties style only the first part, Ha, making, Str
As if a project calls; Building; Permits;
Oversight; Newsworthy;
Lightshow in a petridish flickers candle-like both following and leading the infusion of music
Lives that joined, but the folks on the sidewalk in that one photograph
Look like the university strategy bunch;
And were;
This day later the drift from Beiring Straits says all the permafrostmelt breathing things an electric ear can fathom;
Coming warm, the moment the earth lived with the new adjectives like global, commitment, empowerment;
Prose awash in the internet;
The place and time were superb; and the picture of your website catches the balance;
I would add detail; more resolution; more cropping a few frames;
Straight was the dream of waking in the rational kindness that made a hasty time accelerate;
But for a moment, at work, it is nice to find your site is developing;
Imagine being busy, so busy dance is out of the question, dance the art, the union of space and body;

Who will carry liberty’s flag?
I see
Virginia Ginny Resner as the beautiful warrior with the flag held high leading the charge for righteous change calling out from beyond “Who will step up and carry on;?”

When she was just a little baby she was shown by her parents Herbert and Dodi Resner that the life lived without egalitarian standards was not living; Following in the ancient Judaic traditions of a just legal system her father fought the good fight never giving into the pressures from the powers that be; Herb as a young lawyer helped free from life sentence, Thomas Moony, proving that his was an unjust imprisonment for being a labor activist that in fact he was framed by the Governor and District Attorneys for the WWI Preparedness Day parade bombing he did not commit, Herb taught: What’s right is an open case worth fighting for;

I knew Ginny when she was growing up in a colorful era of San Francisco’s history; She never swerved from supporting the front line whether on Cadillac Row, fighting the Un American house of un-American activities and of course working since early on to end the abominable inexcusable Illegal war in Vietnam;

Her Brothers Hillel, the older, and Bill, the wise, who died too young, were her support group from early on providing Health hearth home so much more than just older brothers are expected to do;

Later in the 60’s with her brothers and other Aquarian pioneers She was a force behind the Haight Asbury’s Straight Theater presenting all the famous sixties musicians and working toward a total Renaissance right in our global village and all this in the face of the sluggish empathy of a Nation of Sheep dominating the home front controlled by Nixon’s Military Industrial Complex; Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum political parties created an even more repressive society forcing dwindling personal freedoms and a corresponding rise in the will and guts it took to be among “ the loyal opposition,”

Many people here and now can pick up her story in the 80’s speaking about when she led the fight against unjust mandatory minimums ; Once again, her head above the trenches, she collected information, rallied forces, wrote books, and assaulted the seemingly impregnable Establishment forces with only her beautiful smile and beatific presence to form alliances and keep up the good fight; She was Doctor King exemplified; Persistent and loving;

The same veiled threats we ignored Ginny faced head on; Where there was the injustice metted out to countless down trodden mothers and children suffering “Shattered Lives “ because those close to them were unfairly locked up Ginny was there for support; Then came strategy then more action ; Always more action;

As far as I can tell, living a State away, she then went on to battle the unjust imposition of heinous harassing federal minions running rough shod over the will of the people and burning the advocates at the stake of puritan self-righteousness;
I hear her calling “ Who will take up the banner until the battle is won; “
If we all do we will all win; If we don’t …;; You don’t have to ask; Do what she did, act on what she said and revere how she lived her life;

She calls “Work to Legalize Liberty where ever it is still lying, before it is to late;”
God Bless you precious Warrior;
Peace and Love
Reggie

This article appeared on page B - 5 of the San Francisco Chronicle July 26

Virginia Resner, a longtime advocate for drug policy reform and the families of imprisoned drug offenders, died July 18 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer; She was 60;
Ms; Resner was co-author of the book "Shattered Lives: Portraits from America's Drug War," which won the Robert C; Randall Award for Achievement in the Field of Citizen Action from the Drug Policy Foundation in 2001; The book documents how families are affected by federal drug enforcement policy;
She was also president of Green-Aid, an Oakland medical marijuana legal defense fund that champions the plight of Ed Rosenthal, a former High Times columnist who twice has been convicted of violating federal drug laws for growing medical marijuana;
"She was a very compassionate and very caring person," said Rosenthal; "Some people get bogged down in the intricacies of issues, but not Virginia; She had a good strong sense of herself and what she believed in;"
Ms; Resner was born in San Francisco and graduated from Galileo High School; Her father was Herbert Resner, a prominent labor lawyer who worked with longshoreman union activist Harry Bridges;
"She was a real red-diaper baby," said Ms; Resner's brother, Hillel Resner; "A lot of her values and interest in social justice came from our father;"
In the early 1990s, Ms; Resner's boyfriend, Steven Faulkner, was arrested for drug dealing and sentenced to five years in prison; Even though Ms; Resner did not know about Faulkner's activities, federal agents raided her house searching for evidence; She became involved with a group that helps families of drug offenders and fought against mandatory drug sentencing minimums;
She also helped gain clemency for Amy Pofahl, a Los Angeles woman who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for conspiracy in her estranged husband's ecstasy operation; President Bill Clinton granted Pofahl clemency in 2000 after she served nine years;
To all her activist endeavors, Ms; Resner brought energy, a strong sense of purpose and outstanding organizational skills, Rosenthal said;
"Virginia had a very strong commitment to social justice and was very well loved," said Mikki Norris, Ms; Resner's co-author on "Shattered Lives;" "She had a real solid inner strength and wisdom;"
She is survived by her brother;
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p;m; Tuesday at Temple Emanu-El, 2 Lake St;, San Francisco;
Donations can be sent to Coming Home Hospice of San Francisco, Green-Aid or Temple Emanu-El;

I first got to the Haight Ashbury about October 1966 when a girl by the name of Rusty Jagger who worked at the topless shoe shine parlor next to City Lights Book Store in North Beach She told me that the term “Beatnik” was passé and that we were now “Hippies” My first thought on hearing this was hippy, sounds like we were disportioned; Rusty also turned me on to where I and my friend Jim could crash for free, The Kirkland Hotel at Sutter and Laguna was an old run down three story hotel inhabited by the last of the beatniks and the first hippies; Later on I found other places to crash like a place called the British Embassy on Belvedere St about two blocks off Haight St; At 1090 Page St I got my first cap of Owsley acid from Chuck Jones whose claim to fame was that he was the original drummer for Big Brother and the Holding Company; The last time I saw Chuck was about 1976 he was living off Geary St with some Native American chick; From 1966 to maybe 1972 I took near 100 acid trips, however after my time on speed it put me in a different mindset and the trips never created the wonderment of the pre speed trips; Most of my memories however go to a shooting gallery at 256 Central St; there I met Crazy Cathi, the late Judi Fisher who took a OD in Seattle WA; about 1971-72 and died; That was a big heart break; But on the lighter side, an funny story was, one day Cathi said to me ,Hay you know that they are calling us; No I replied, they calling me Crazy Cathi and you are Paranoid Rich, also Freddie the Barber called you a nut; We were speed freaks Cathi, Judi, Donna, Devon, Carol from Texas and that was what weirded us out; Looking back I guess even by Haight Ashbury standards I was tweaked out pretty good; After a little over a year I managed to quit speed; But I did stuff till about 1978 in San Francisco, Los Angles and somehow made it through almost three years in the Army of all places; Back to my old friend Freddy the Barber who went back to the North Beach scene of the Beatniks, and claims to have fixed with Lenny Bruce the comedian during his day in that area about 1965-67; Freddy was one of my best connections till about 1976;
I have now been married since 1980 raised three boys and been clean and not fixing dope since 1980; But I think I had better cut this short; If anyone thinks they remember me I will email them a link to my personal web site;

Can any of you who were in CA around 1969 help give "Castaic Doe" a name?

Please take a minute to visit http://www;doenetwork;org/cases/559ufca;html to see if you recognize the ring and/or dress;

The ring is from a Kerrville, TX jeweler (James Avery) that operated from his garage at the time; She could possibly be from the Central TX area; There could also possibly be a connection with a rock band from Kerrville named The 13th Floor Elevators who were in CA around the time;

If you can offer any clues, please contact Richard Kennerly at rkennerly@cox;net

Thank you;

Thanks in advance for your help;

Rock & Recovery – Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love

On June 7, 1967, David E; Smith, MD, opened the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic in San Francisco, the first of its kind in the United States and the catalyst for a free clinic movement that swelled worldwide; Dr; Dave believed health care is a right, not a privilege, and that it should be free for all who need it; The issue of free or affordable health care for all Americans continues to be a major topic in the social and political landscape of this country;

The word "free" meant much more to Dave than "no charge" and introduced a radical health-care philosophy emphasizing medical treatment free from red tape, free from value judgments, free from eligibility requirements, and free from emotional hassles, frozen medical protocol, moralizing, and mystification; The clinic opened as a response to the medical needs of 100,000 young people who descended on San Francisco for the Summer of Love; On that day in June, Dave wasn't sure the clinic would last the month, let alone the summer;

Hundreds of thousands of patients later, the Free Clinic movement marks its 40th anniversary in June, 2007; To commemorate the history and contribution of his work as a pioneer in the field of addiction medicine, join us in honoring Dr; Dave and supporting the work of the Common Ground Free Clinic in New Orleans and Road Recovery;

I found THE SCRAWL and attempted to add a note re the 2007 SUMMER OF LOVE,
having lived in the BEAT, the 60's (but always doing my own thing) the Telegraph Ave, the HAIGHT (with Rabbi Schlomo Carlbach performing, huge circle of dancing, and attending, with current poet laureate ofCA Al Young giving me in the 60's a ride to the Straight Theater for performance of play by Black friend living in the Haight - same night, Schlomo was performing music; My 60's etc experiences & my friend who co-hosted first summer of love, and dear Eileen Kaufman photographed so beautifully for the happening (the beauty of North Beach - 50's and 60's) Thanks for this site providing beautiful info on the Straight Theater;
I enjoyed the Colorado message from Paul; I was born in Boulder, lived in Loveland, from 7 on in Coos Bay, Oregon, came to Berkeley same year as Ginsberg (who lived in a cottage in Berkeley) 1959, heavily in composition/shows/music (and
regular working also to earn living!) and performed with current poet laureate Al Young when I worked on ‘movie projects’ etc with he
and Black artists of the old MED Café on Telegraph, but entrance tor reading with BEATS came later not in ‘their day’ and hippy? That was for me ‘a free spirit’ natural, not for psychodelics or drug experiment, but the natural love/high—lifetime; met friend Allen Cohen and his wife, Annie in the 80’s, sharing celebrations, memorials and readidngs together (see site, Allen’s work/poems for him, picture of the incredible “living breathing beautiful newspaper” the Oracle on www;sfheart;com- poem there
tells how I happened upon Allen in People’s Park, Berkeley; HE IS AND
SO ARE other close friends, the very heart of SUMMER OF LOVE which I believe
he co-hosted in it’s first happening; And one beautiful photograph of that
’dancing on the meadow’ is of my dear friend Eileen Kaufman (living E; Bay,
still writing love songs for Bob Kaufman as she too, pianist, opera
singer, writer (see Women of the Beats) and ‘free spirit’ called in the day of the BEATS “The Beauty of North Beach” and is as beautiful at 83! I
hope, though large events are not my cup of tea, to somehow share in this
celebration in 07; Perhaps there will be ‘side happenings’ - including hopefully people renewing acquaintance with North Beach where both Allen Cohen
and I read (just a few BEAT poets and I happened to be included, invited by
Tony Seldon who as close friend to Allen and Annie, died not long after
Allen) - we were at the Abandoned Planet for celebration of Jack Micheline (I read with him and we sang our songs, his last reading before his death) wonderful 3-wall mural at The Abandoned Planet in North Beach, still there and I urge people to visit the
mural; Jack, not only ‘one of favorite poets’ but perfectionist in his art work of rich intense primary colors! Big handsome Jack Micheline! Memorialized by great poets, as Jack Hirschman, Allen Cohen, Julia Vinograd, q; r; hand who said “when I heard Jack MIcheline read in New York, it changed my writing forever;” everyone was there including young people living in and around the session or whom Jack would read a ‘poem on the street’ for perhaps reward of a beer! They came with great love, overflowing in the huge Abandoned Church in the Mission; It is significant that his life and death was memorialized around ”abandonment” for his writings knew the lonliness of the soul and he was most of all ‘the wandering troubadour’ reading in every little cafe of America and travelling the world; Too much history in me, enough of remembering, I just closed (after 5 years) Whole Note Poetry in Berkeley, it was ‘a place to put my life,’ was family, was ‘the 60’s again’ was community, I was born ‘a 60’s child’ (though not literally the 60’s) though raised in isolated, ‘not free’ Coos Bay, Oregon! Waiting for the day I would be ‘set free’ in Berkeley; My wish: don’t let ‘policing and hatred of the homeless - which is after all you and me ---and right wing ‘christian’ fascist cell-doors-slamming mentality push our young children, travelling through, or homeless, on the streets of my beloved Telegraph Avenue, The Med Cafe, People’s Park which was ‘fought and died for’ in it’s birth, founded by FREE SPEECH leaders of UC Berkeley’s Free Speech movement and the free speech emblem known to the world; Students come up to me and say (from Europe and various countries) “Can you show me the way to People’s Park;”KEEP LOVE AND FREEDOM

Paul

I was born in Wyoming, but I came to life in San Francisco;
I have not been to California since 1969;
I ain’t a traveling man, but someday I want to wander through Golden Gate Park again;
I am so happy I came upon This Scrawl;
More than anything else I trace the birth of my soul and spirit back to San Francisco in 1967-68; I wandered out there after I dropped out of college and ran away to escape being drafted into the army;
I was lifted up… Oh, how lifted up I was;
I was truly blessed;
I was given free love, free food, and free acid and free psychedelic light shows at the Straight Theater; It must have all been free because I know I didn't have any money at the time;
I only spent a total of about three months of my young life in and around Haight Asbury from November 1967 ‘til August 1968; I was a wandering hitchhiking Hippy;
Coming from the high Colorado Desert down to the moist, green, lush, oxygen rich climate of San Francisco was an incredible rush all by itself;
And then I took a trip inside the Straight Theater;
I especially liked the way you could wander around inside The Straight Theater; I always went up on the balcony and watched the people squirting the colored dyes on the overhead projectors;
I don’t currently know anyone who really understands how things were back there;
In my sleep I have dreams about those days;
No! No! I cry and choke through my tears as I wake up from paradisiacal dreams! It was real! It is NOT just a dream! It WAS real!
Sometimes I experience waves of nostalgic sadness for those days that are almost too much to bear; I still believe;

What a great site this truly is; I was envolved with the Straight in 67, with the light shows, and the dance class with the Dead;I was wondering if anyone knew if Magnolia Thunderpussy from the Drogstore on the corner of Haight& Ashbury is still on this planet? And also if anyone attended the show at Brooks Hall that was put on by the Sons of Hawaii; Reg, You are a blessing to the faith of the real changes that brought a positive turn in the 60s;Keep the faith brother;Also does anyone know what happened to Juanita from Sonoma?

The reason I posted yesterday, before I got of on a tangent, was to find out if you knew of a good map of the businesses of the Haight Ashbury; My friend Buffalo Chip worked at Tracy's and I had and impromptu office at the Doughnut Shop on Stanyan and Frederick; I shared a public phone there with a couple of hundred common "bidness men", musicians, pin-ball wizards, Chris the Communist, etc; I know that Buffalo had a thousand or so "compadres" that made Tracy's their home\office\bulitin board; The Drug Store on Haight Street, The Blue Unicorn, etc; I wonder if Stanley Mouse or Lore Shoberg\Orion, or some other incredible artist active during those years ever made a "characterized" map of the Haight; I know it would be a boon to me in recalling "stories" of yesteryear; It would make it so much easier for someone to envision "the life" if they could consult the map from time to time;

I don't remember it being under the Straight Theatre,  but it rings all kinds of memory bells by its name;  The web site is coming right along;  I followed your example of writing a stream-of-consciousness  type of running-intro kind of a thing, sort of a where are they now,  what are they doing kind of deal,  and before I knew it; it had run-on to 5,000 words before I could wrap it up and call it enough for now;  Its really addictive, its like I've been telling my story over and over, all my adult life, editing, polishing, refining, and now its like a good acid trip, it just rolls naturally off my  finger-tips and onto the screen;

Remember, how it feels the next morning when your coming down from some good acid,  there's a timber in your voice,  every sentence is profound,  everything you say has a ring of resolve to it;  Like Moses, coming down off Mt; Sainai or something;  I still wish I could take it ever so often; It was such an important tool to my decision making; All my major decisions were sat-on under the influence of good psychedelics; That's one of the main things I loved about acid, it was like a brain bath, kind of like de-fragging, all the marbles in a row again, for a time;

As long as I'm on the subject, the best trip I ever took, out of at least a thousand, was some psylicin (doubt if thats spelled right) any way, I got it from a pre-med student who lived next door to me at 935 Stanyan; He got it from a chemistry major friend of his and it amounted to man-made psylocybin, (again I can't spell it, do ya want good grammar or good drugs?) It was so fine, it might well have been a simple culmination kind of a deal, an evolution of wonderful experiences, resulting in pure bliss; Oh, well;

I'm at the stage of creating a blog to run within my site, kind of a "can you hum a few bars" kind of a kfmlnooze challenge; "If you have a tune rattling around in your head, call 1 (800) blah-blah-blah and hum a few bars, and me and my "posse of geezer music people" will name that tune, or die trying;"

No the I and Thou Coffee house was a store front under the Straight Theater School for the Performing Arts and other Straight Theater Enterprises in the Ex Masonic Hall at 1748 Haight. The I and Thou was between the bakery and a Hardware store. Maybe you are thinking of The Blue Unicorn which was located across the panhandle from Haight.L&P rew

have to tell you, after rambling around reading your responses to
the many different posts, I'm encouraged by your broad compassion
and understanding; Over the years I hear and read cheesy comments
about the Haight, hippies, and misrepresentations of the peace
approach to life and living and I want to scream; Then you come
along and I feel like I'm no longer alone;

I hope this doesn't sound like a lofty bunch of shit; I'm having my
first cup of coffee and thought I'd review my postings from yesterday
and by mistakenly hitting the e-mail button got a direct line to
you; I moved from the St; Lawrence Hotel in North Beach to a flat
behind the liquor store on Cole and Haight in the fall of 64' and
lived at many addresses in the Haight over the next 7 years, winding
up at 935 Stanyan; After a brief cram course in dj'n at KMPX I was
invited to Denver, Colorado and a free-form station called KFML where
I was a hippy-dippie newsman and dj for a year or so; I have enjoyed
the benefits of having taken many, many trips and the peace of mind
that comes with the experience; I learned from the acid, not to lend
myself to anything I couldn’t live with and Denver was beginning a
cycle in 71' that San Francisco was ending;

Now that I know that you and people like you are still trying to hack
out a peaceful existence, I will keep checking and contributing when
I think I can; Who's motto was, "may the baby jesus open your eyes
and shut your mouth"?

Reggie's Comments   Hi Ed
Thanks for the wonderful email and picture. Just as I start to think I am howling in the wind, wasting everyone's time, a thoughtful and caring person from "The Army" lovingly "brings me up" as we used to say reminding me to "Keep the Faith".

Our dear departed friend Chester Helms popularized the "May the baby Jesus open your eyes and shut your mouth" on an Avalon poster for the Blues Project and Great Society April 23, '66 featuring a picture of an Indian in a top hat smoking a long cigar and the phrase in a box below him. L&P

In 1967 I found myself hitchhiking outside of Sacramento in extremely sparse traffic, when out of the glow of the setting son appeared a VW bus, the door opened to the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and this fella leans over and tells me he's heading to Salt Lake City and I'm welcome; Nobody tells you where they're going until they've had a chance to screen you, so I knew this was a fine fellow; As it turns out, he told me his name was Justin luther, and he was heading to Salt Lake in search of sound equipment for the soon to open Straight Theatre; He took some pictures of me in various poses with an STP sticker and I ran into him in the mid 70's when I was selling time for KTIM in San Rafael, at Bimbos for a reunion party for the Straight Theatre; I think he said he was married to Dusty Street by then and that was the last I heard of him until I googled the Straight Theatre and saw his picture in the board of directors shot; I think he told me his name was Greene when I met him and that he changed it to Justin Luther so as not to embarrass his family; My only other significant Straight memory happened months later; Upon returning to SF, the Straight Theatre was up and running and I started going to the shows; One night I was cruising around the front of the stage and saw this cu-tie standing there with her arms folded; I asked her if she wanted to dance and she said she had to go on in a few minutes; That was the first time I saw Big Brother and the Holding Company and I was, as we used to say, "blown away";

Reggie's Comments   Then:
The life in the United States mid to late 60’s was very much influenced by its own foreign war ,Viet Nam, ( the longest so far in our history) in which the “”Military Industrial Complex” sucked off the youth to kill and die in a foreign country paying for it by siphoning, our large industrial, agricultural and financial surplus despoiling our Democracy. By the early 70’s Madison Ave had usurped the counter cultures clothes and styles and glossed over the real 60’s values of Peace, Love, Equality and Freedom to Pursue Happiness. The real social renaissance we envisioned although this modest attempt did produce a lot of great music and art created when a peaceful society uses cybernetics to produce the leisure time needed for creativity to flourish did not happened.
Afterward 60”s Values went into the “Spin Cycle”
Now,:
The Military Industrial Complex has been joined by Corporate, Pharmaceutical Medical, Police and Penal Drug War interests and continues to mire the world in “Oil Wars” wasting our youth, the economy continuing to postpone any possible social renaissance.
President Eisenhower's 1960 warning to beware of the danger posed by "the military Industrial Complex is more true today because this complex is still the gravest danger to life, liberty and the pursuit of happyness world wide " one country at a time".
One good place for leads to the 60’s story is a web site called “Who’s Who in the Haight Ashbury” You could also find the “Scrawl on the Wall” posting from a few years ago by a student named April which tells of her high school groups report and 60’s Dysplay Showing held in their Texas High School. We lived in the haight/Ashbury district from 1965 to 1967 and shared a flat with several people we have since lost touch with; It got so crazy, finally, that we couldn't take it anymore and left San Francisco to hitchhike around some; We'd love to hear from people who lived in SF during those years; We saw Dierdre Weir's message (Tom Weir's daughter) and remember her as a cute little blond-headed girl upstairs in our apartment building;
